Family Engagement Policy

GLENDALE SPANISH IMMERSION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Family Engagement Policy 2022-2023

At Glendale Spanish Immersion Elementary School, we recognize that parents play a critical role
in their child’s success as well as the success of the school. We recognize the importance of
working closely with parents to provide a quality educational experience for all students.

Communication with Parents
• We will work with families to develop the Family Engagement Policy that outlines the
commitments of teachers, guardians, and students to foster academic success for each
child. We will provide families with a copy of this policy through various ways. We will have
copies available at Open House and will post the policy to our school website.
• We will provide an explanation of the curriculum being used at Glendale Spanish Immersion,
the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency
levels that students are expected to meet.
• We will strive to communicate clearly and effectively with parents through a variety of
communication strategies including, but not limited to, weekly newsletters, call out
announcements, school website updates, progress reports, report cards, by mail, by phone,
and other emails.
• Parents will have access to Infinite Campus, which allows parents to view students’ grades,
attendance, and assignments. Parents will be able to receive messages and notifications
through this platform.

Meetings with Parents
• We will offer Parent-Teacher conferences throughout the year so that parents can meet
with students’ teachers and work together to help students achieve academic success.
• We will provide opportunities for regular meetings with parents to formulate suggestions and
participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their student.
• The Glendale Spanish Immersion Elementary School administration team maintains an
“open door” policy for parents, phone calls, emails, and conferences.

Parent Participation
• We will collaborate with parents on the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Parents are an
integral part of the school community and crucial to improving our school. Parents may
serve on the SIP committee.
• We will aid parents in understanding Tennessee’s academic content standards, student
achievement standards, and local academic assessments. We will also help parents to
monitor their child’s achievement.
• We will assist students in successfully transitioning to middle school through high school and
on to a career or college path. We will help those transitioning by working with the feeder
middle schools.
• Glendale Spanish Immersion Elementary School will continue to collaborate with community
groups and business partners to improve student achievement, career-readiness, and to
foster parent involvement.
