Family Engagement Policy
At Glendale Spanish Immersion Elementary School, we recognize that parents play a critical role in their child’s success as well as the success of the school. We recognize the importance of working closely with parents to provide a quality educational experience for all students.
Communication with Parents
- We will work with families to develop the Family Engagement Policy that outlines the commitments of teachers, guardians, and students to foster academic success for each child. Copies of this policy will be available at Open House and on our school website.
- We will provide an explanation of the curriculum used at Glendale Spanish Immersion, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
- We will strive to communicate clearly and effectively with parents through various channels, including weekly newsletters, call-out announcements, school website updates, progress reports, report cards, mail, phone calls, and emails.
- Parents will have access to Infinite Campus, where they can view students’ grades, attendance, and assignments, as well as receive messages and notifications.
Meetings with Parents
- We will offer Parent-Teacher conferences throughout the year so parents can meet with teachers and work together to support student success.
- We will provide opportunities for regular meetings with parents to share suggestions and participate in decisions related to their child's education.
- The Glendale Spanish Immersion Elementary School administration team maintains an open-door policy for parents via phone calls, emails, and conferences.
Parent Participation
- We will collaborate with parents on the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Parents are a vital part of the school community and are encouraged to serve on the SIP committee.
- We will help parents understand Tennessee’s academic content standards, student achievement standards, and local academic assessments, as well as how to monitor their child’s achievement.
- We will assist students in successfully transitioning to middle school, high school, and post-secondary paths by working with feeder middle schools.
- Glendale Spanish Immersion Elementary School will continue to collaborate with community groups and business partners to improve student achievement, career readiness, and parent involvement.
Drop Off and Pick Up
Drop Off, Pick Up and Parking Information
- School at Glendale starts promptly at 8 a.m.
- Students may be dropped off starting at 7:45 a.m.
- Anyone who arrives after 8 a.m. will need to be checked in at the front office by a parent or guardian and will receive a tardy.
There is one way in and out of Thompson Avenue. We also have many buses coming to Glendale with very small children. We all need to be aware of this, even when we are late for work.
Please drive slowly at all times.
Pick Up
- Pick up begins at 3 p.m. The pick-up line is long, but moves quickly and is often complete by 3:15 p.m.
- The morning line is single file, but in the afternoon we have a double file for dismissal.
- Buses are loaded first in order to pick up other routes.
- Car riders will pull up to a teacher with a “Stop” sign. Please have your child/children’s name visible on your car’s visor for dismissal. If you do not have one, we can provide one.
- Stay in your car and we will bring your child to you. Once children are safely in the car, you will then be instructed to pull forward.
A Few Transportation Requests
- Please do not bring your dogs in the pickup line.
- Please do not talk on your cell phone during drop-off or pick-up. (It's the law!)
- Please do not leave your car or leave until you are directed.
- Please do not distract teachers during drop-off or pick-up.
- Please do not get out and talk to friends during drop-off or pick-up.
If someone else is picking up your child, you must send a note signed by the teacher/principal. Please make sure your child knows how they are getting home.
We do not dismiss early between 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Parking
We appreciate your patience. We understand that the car line is long and accessing our limited parking can be frustrating during high-volume times.
We open the doors to the school and begin receiving students from the car line at 7:45 a.m. The best way to keep our kids safe and to help traffic flow is to follow these guidelines:
- Please use the car line to drop-off and pick-up students. Reserve the limited parking for special circumstances and for parent volunteers.
- Parking is for teachers, staff, and parent volunteers. Please only use the back parking lot if you are dropping off and walking in with your child.
- Volunteers and visitors may park in the back parking lot accessible from Melville. There are also several parking spaces in front of the school that are easily accessed during non-peak traffic times. We do not encourage the use of these parking spaces during drop-off and pick-up.
- Do not park in the grass.
- Do not use your cell phone in any way while driving on our campus.
