GATE - Gifted and Talented Education
The MNPS GATE Program is designed to nurture, challenge, and develop the potential of gifted and talented students. Intellectually gifted and academically talented students are those whose intellectual abilities and potential for achievement are so outstanding that they need special attention to meet their educational needs. Eligibility is determined based on demonstration of advanced classroom performance, superior results on a national-normed achievement test, and evidence of higher level thinking as measured by assessment of abstract reasoning and logical thinking.
The GATE serves eligible students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Encore classes meet one-half day each week in local schools.
As almost 1/3 of Glendale's students participate in GATE, Glendale has the benefit of a dedicated Encore teacher and classroom. Dr. Jacqueline Kent taught at Glendale for ten years prior to being appointed as the Advanced Academics Resource Teacher. She has been teaching for 19 years. Dr. Kent is originally from South Africa and has traveled extensively, including having lived in Bolivia where she became fluent in Spanish. She has two daughters, loves hiking and gardening and rescues border collies. Email Jacqueline Kent about our encore program.
Library

Glendale welcomes you to our wonderful biblioteca!! Our librarian extraordinaire, Rebecca Hornsby, started at Glendale in 2010.
Our library is a bright, busy, and welcoming place! Students may visit anytime to browse for books, check out materials, or work on the computers. Teachers bring their students for collaborative lessons that incorporate both information literacy skills and classroom curriculum.
Glendale has an online book catalog online book catalog. The MNPS online catalog merged with the Nashville Public Library’s catalog. Additionally, NPL created Limitless Libraries, which allows teachers, third, and fourth graders to request books from NPL to be delivered and returned to Glendale. The Limitless Libraries site has something for everyone! With a library card, you can access helpful sites like BookFlix and PebbleGo, and check out ebooks and audiobooks. Find it all at Limitless Libraries.
Have you checked out the Tennessee Electronic Library? This is free to all Tennesseans and includes a section just for kiddos. Click Visit the Tennessee Electronic Library to find online encyclopedias, student-friendly search engines, Tennessee history, reading sites, games and much more.
Be a Library God or Goddess! Opportunities to volunteer in the library include assisting students during morning check out on a weekly or monthly basis, shelving books, and/or helping with either of the book fairs (promotion, set up, sales, or clean up). Contact Mrs. Hornsby if you are interested.

Club topics change each quarter and have included: Cooking Club, Yoga Club, Running Club, and Superhero Club.
In addition to the PTO-sponsored after-school clubs, a variety of groups meet after school and in the evenings for activities. Glendale is home to practice and meetings of:

Scouts
Boy Scouts
Glendale has a large and active Cub Scout troop. We are part of the Middle Tennessee Scout Council (MTSC) and the James E. West district. Glendale's Pack 800 is an inclusive Pack - all boys are welcome to participate. There are Cub Scout dens for grades K through 5 with regular meetings, campouts, hikes, Pinewood Derby car races and so much more. Cub Scouts emphasizes character development in a non-competitive environment while we have a lot of fun.
To learn more about scouting at Glendale, contact Pack 800.
Girl Scouts
For almost 100 years, the Girl Scout movement has been changing the lives of girls and improving communities locally and around the world. As the Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee approaches this monumental landmark, we can look back and see how the foundation of Girl Scouting is ever present in today’s Girl Scout experience. By providing relevant programming for today’s girl, we cultivate leadership through exciting activities that challenge girls to take on new journeys.
Glendale has Brownie Troops for grades 1-4.
